City Winery New York Presents NY Ska Orchestra live  on January 7th at 1:30pm

The NYC Ska Orchestra is a unique 20-piece big band that creates and performs lush original compositions and arrangements of songs from the rich, historic, and culturally-iconic Jamaican music of ska, mento, rock steady, reggae, and jazz from the 1950s and 60s. Led by trumpeter and vocalist Kevin Batchelor, and featuring Jamaican music legend Larry MacDonald on congas and vocals; these two principals have recorded and/or performed with nearly every great Jamaican music artist including Peter Tosh, Bob Marley, Bunny Wailer, Lee Scratch Perry, The Skatalites, Toots & The Maytals and many more. The orchestra includes some of New York’s best players and arrangers, and blends the exuberant musical layers of the jazz big band era with Jamaican roots music into a unique, accessible and joyous sound that audiences love.
