Lizz Wright Album Release Show
City Winery NYC Presents Lizz Wright live in concert on April 14th at 8pm
Lizz Wright, a celebrated vocalist and songwriter with a distinctive voice praised by The New York Times, reflects the cultural tapestry of America in her music. With a 20-year career, she transcends social divides, drawing inspiration from her Southern upbringing in Georgia. Starting as a church music director, she journeyed through the Great American Songbook, gaining national recognition with a Billie Holiday tribute at 22.
Signing with Verve Records at 23, her debut album "Salt" topped Billboard’s contemporary jazz charts. She continued with albums like "Dreaming Wide Awake" and "Freedom & Surrender." In 2020, she brought her culinary skills to Carver 47 in Chicago. In 2022, she launched her independent label, Blues & Greens Records, releasing the live album "Holding Space" and a short film.
Now, with ownership of her master recordings, Wright is set to release her studio debut album, "Shadow," in 2024. Produced by Chris Bruce and executive produced by Wright, it explores themes of romantic love, loss, community, and healing. Collaborating with artists like Angelique Kidjo and Meshell Ndegeocello, "Shadow" showcases Lizz in a gentle and triumphant light, anchored by acoustic guitars, string quartets, harp, and gospel vocals.
